DRBFM

Design Review Based on Failure Modes (DRBFM) is a tool developed by the Toyota Motor Corporation based on the philosophy that design problems occur when changes are made to engineering designs. The idea is to make changes from a previous, proven design highly visible and explore concerns, causes and impacts of that change. The points of change, according to the DRBFM theory, are the source of future failures.

PlanTech: DRBFM-"The Next Big Thing" in Quality Disciplines.: "Good Dissection
The objective of good dissection is to examine results of validation testing. Make your mistakes visible. This examination is applying the DRBFM to another concept, Design Review Based on Test Results (DRBTR).
When applying DRBTR, we must, wherever possible, observe the test failure. DRBFM encourages the designer, through careful discussion with cross functional (multiple perspective) participation, to look at a design to discover problems or weaknesses with the design and share the information. DRBTR has the designer observing actual test pieces and discussing test results in open discussions during design reviews. These reviews can take place at the OEM or a supplier's facility.
When dissecting test results, one must use the results to determine if it is the most effective means to find problems. We must analyze the type of test and ensure it is appropriate. Finally, when discussing test results one must determine if there are other problems, if the test was proper, or if it is best to change the design based on results? "
